Currently... Update Edition

It's ridiculous how long it's been since I've updated here. Life seemed to pick up and fly. I decided maybe the best way to update is join Katy Upperman and others with a Currently post.

Being a mom! My husband and I were matched for open adoption (our son will know his birth family) in January, and our son Oliver was born in early February. It's been a whirlwind of wonderfulness. I'm trying to enjoy every moment, even though the urge to write still compels me.

I never used my phone for reading until now. Holding a book is impossible so e-books are a savior! I'm currently re-reading A Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon (second Outlander book) since I haven't read it since I was a teenager! Since it takes time to read her books (it's over 752 pages long), I'm also reading Emmy and Oliver by Robin Benway.

Also, to get back into writing, I'm going through Write Your Novel from the Middle by James Scott Bell.

There's our usual shows that I'm completely in love with like The Flash, Supergirl, and iZombie. And Outlander is back! My biggest guilty pleasure is Dancing with the Stars since Jodie Sweetin is on there, after the return of Fuller House. I admit that Full House (and The X-Files) was a favorite of mine growing up. I loved the new show and can't wait for the second season. It's strange being grown ups! But it's fun my son can grow up with it.

Listening to...

I've been playing a lot of Disney songs and Oliver loves it when we play Rock Band. He sings back-up vocals. It's adorable.

Thinking About...

Getting back into writing and finish this book! I'm learning how to incorporate things into my schedule again. For example, take a morning walk while the kiddo naps. Since we've done this, he's been sleeping better (which he already does!) at night. I need to make time, even if it means going to a coffee shop once a week.

Going to North Dakota in a month to see our family and friends. I can't wait to introduce everyone to our little boy!

Can't leave out Captain America: Civil War, Free Comic Book Day, AND Mother's Day is all on the the same weekend. Score!

I was better at taking breaks for myself! Instead I fill it with chores that need to be done around the house. I feel like I'm constantly playing catch up (in a way, I am!). Not sure if I'll ever find balance, but I'll figure out how to do it or handle it someday. Writing this blog post is a good start

Making Me Happy...

It was a long two years where my health wasn't the best, I was worried about us starting a family, and my writing was going nowhere. When we decided to do adoption, things started to fall into place again. We waited eight months for that call, but it happened at the right time. Watching our son born, and him holding my finger while they weighed him and everything, and how he still does it now, shows me how far love can go. The day after he was born, I was sent a link for open submissions for an adoption anthology. I'm not sure if I'll be included, but knowing I could write, submit, and try made me realize I can do things again. It's a reminder that this is a path that I'm meant to take.

And seeing my husband with our son. It's one of the most beautiful things I've seen.

Being a part of a my son's birth family. Open adoption is such a gift.

Hearing everyone's excitement and becoming closer to people when our son was born. Gratitude makes a world of difference.
